ELWYN VOSS

Elwyn Voss is the founder of The Voss Group and more importantly an experienced business, estate, and financial planner.  He has spent the last 45 years helping families and business owners' structure and implement successful succession, retirement income, and estate plans. Elwyn is a dedicated, persistent,  purpose driven planner. 

A consummate student of the industry he never stops learning how to deliver technically sound creative solutions to his client’s succession and estate planning challenges. Over his career, he has helped hundreds of businesses successfully transition from one generation to the next. Elwyn is skilled at working with both the financial and emotional balance sheet.  He knows how to structure plans to tax efficiently transfer businesses, recognize, retain, and reward next generation talent, ensure business continuity,  provide retirement income streams and fund legacy plans.   He is a firm believer in the benefits of life insurance having seen firsthand the difference it made in so many lives. He will tell you life insurance is the only asset that, when properly structured, is guaranteed to be income and estate tax free when it is needed the most.

Elwyn achieved an MBA at  Cornell  with an emphasis in Estate Planning.  He wrote his thesis on the intergenerational transfer of family-owned farms and ironically set out to prove that life insurance did not make sense.  He had to spend an extra 3 months at Cornell defending his ultimate conclusions that life insurance was a powerful and effective tool in business succession planning.   

 

Elwyn joined MassMutual in 2016 and has consistently been recognized as part of their leaders conference.  In 2021 Elwyn and his team earned recognition as the Top Advisor and Top Team for The Vision Financial Group.

 

Prior to joining MassMutual, he spent 30 years with New England Financial where recognition for his contributions included:

  • Executive Committee (1983-1989)

  • Product Development Committee

  • President of Agent’s Association

  • Most Valuable Agent (23 times during his tenure with New England Financial)

  • Ted Phillips Outstanding Citizen Award

Other recognition for industry and social contributions include:

  • NYS Outstanding County Agent

  • Chairman of the Cornell College of Agriculture Planned Giving Committee (10 years)

  • Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation

  • Cornell Outstanding Alumni Award

  • Chenango County Business of the Year

 

Elwyn grew up on a Dairy and Potato farm in Western NY where he learned the value and satisfaction that comes from a long hard day's work.  Today he resides in Alexandria Bay, NY with his wife Jennifer; their combined family consists of 8 children, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grand child.

 

When he is not planning, Elwyn is an active outdoorsman. He enjoys spending time in the woods, on the water, and on the ski slope; he rides motorcycles, jet skis, and snowmobiles.

 

Elwyn holds the designation of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).  This course works exceeds that required for the designation of Certified Financial Planner TM.  He is an Investment Advisor with FINRA series 1 and 63 registrations as well as life and health license.
